Unfortunately the best place to come up with ideas - now if we only had waterproof post-its...

I'm certainly not a writer, but the last few novels I've read seem to have a notable break when flipping from one character to the next.

Is that cinnamon toast? cuz I love cinnamon toast!

yeah I'm really annoyed with my novel but it INSISTED.

I've got a few chapters in my current manuscript where I change POV within the chapter with a small division. My little divisions within the chapters are numbered. Not sure where I got that from, but that's what I'm doing.

That's what George R.R. Martin does in his "Song of Ice and Fire" series. Each chapter title is a character's name. It's great, because he doesn't have to sneak in hints at the beginning of each chapter about who the POV character is.

Yes I've seen books that do that too... for some reason I'm just not feeling it for my novel. I guess it would seem weird to me to switch all of a sudden from chapter numbers to character names. I dunno...

I would also say that a lot of that depends on how frequently you'll be changing POV. If it happens a lot, I personally wouldn't use chapters.

yeah I feel like I'm going to be switching pretty frequently and that it would be weird to have really short chapters after the long chapters in parts one and two... I don't know!!!

I just added this to the wrong group!! argh!!! Does anybody know how to delete it from one group??

I don't know if you can or not, but i know the mod of a group can delete vids from a group.

Have I to delete from the trailer group? I'll try!

thanks! Sorry, I belong to too many groups now and got confused. :-)

I know you can add vids to more than one group, so I don't see why you can't remove it from one and add it to another.

Usually when I change points of view I use the double line and flowery things method.

I wouldn't have a problem with it if I read it, but if you really don't want to do it, it probably won't come out right.

My currant story being in narratives, I switch a lot, but I just start each new narrative with "The Narrative Continued by..." And then the person's name. Picked that up from Wilki Collins. Some chapters have as many as 5 different narratives. It would be weird to make that many chapters.

I would, personally. :) But then, I write YA, which is all one. My mom writes romance, and they do chapter-to-chapter, most of the time that I've noticed. It's easier to sort out.

I would give each POV its own chapter because it lets us adjust to the feeling. :)

I think your idea of having the POV change each chapter is a good one, because it makes sense. Part 1 and 2 we met your two main characters, so we have to continue knowing about them throughout the novel. So, all the Nira fans will be like WOO! when they read her chapters, and all the Ashden fans will be excited about his! Haha! ;)

The novel I've been working on for a few years handles this issue by starting a new chapter for each POV change and quickly identifying whose POV we're in, usually within the first sentence. But you don't need to actually write their name as the chapter title or as a separate element, as long as it's clear fairly quickly whose eyes we're seeing things through.

I assume the POV change goes along with a change to a new scene. So I would use the *** to signify the new scene within the same chapter. If the new scene is a huge change on more than one level, start a new chapter.
