The DC Metro is better than New York's subways in almost every conceivable way. The only downside is that it doesn't run 24 hours and it doesn't serve as wide an area as the NYC subways. That's really a non-issue, however, since the NYC subway goes to about a million places I would never consider setting foot in, and the DC Metro goes pretty much anywhere I would ever consider going to. Advantage: DC. Check out this video of what happens when a train is coming. Nice.
