Looking across present day Circus Maximus, I'm not sure what some people expect, but I for one didn't think it would be a large green park used for strolling your dog and also for many rock concerts during Rome's Summer!
Certainly a far cry away from its glory days.
The Circus Maximus sits in a valley between two of Rome's seven hills, The Aventine (Aventino) and Palatine (Palatino) hills. The geographical location was perfect for this amazing amphiteater.
Aventine hill is a quiet residential area but Palatine hill, that features the ancient ruins of Roman emperor's villas, is the birth place of Roman mythology. Romulus and Remus were supposed to have been raised in a cave by a she-wolf on Palatine hill.
