Compare rates on 2016 Hotels in Rome across 30+ accommodation websites at once: The video shows the high flood water level and wreckage from house boats and barges that broke from their moorings due to the floods in Rome Italy. The bridge in the first few frames of the video is the 'Ponte Cestio', it connects The Tiber Island with the Trastevere area. The hospital on Tiber island (on the upstream side of the island) wasn't effected by the floods but on the downstream side the water was high up the church walls. (You can see this on my other video of the flooding in Rome.) The rescue services were on standby to assist the hospital if levels continued to rise. Below , on either side of the Tevere (Tiber river) are actually cycling lanes. They were submerged by about 8 meters/yards of water! Floods in Rome Italy 12th & 13th December 2008. Compare rates on 2016 Hotels in Rome across 30+ accommodation websites at once. The video shows The Floods in Rome Italy at the Tiber island (Isola Tiberina)between the Trastevere and Campo de Fiori areas of Rome. The island has a hospital and church. The church was engulfed by water but the hospital narrowly escaped the floods in Rome. Below and to the left and right are actually cycling lanes which have been submerged by about 8 meters/yards of water! Rome Italy www.romanlife-romeitaly.com The video shows thePonte Sant' Angelo Bridge in Rome Italy , in front of Castel Sant' Angelo. There are about 5 boats (house boats, barges, and a Tevere dinner/tour cruise boat) that due to the Rome floods have broken free from their moorings. The have been crushed and wedged between the arches of the bridge. The situation is quite dangerous because the boats are obstructing the flow of water. To prevent any further rising of water and pressure against thePonte Sant' Angelo the fire service have been ordered to dismantle the boats. You can appreciate the height of the water if you consider that the normal level of the water is about 1 to 2 meters below the cycling lane and the cycling lane is now about 7 meters under water! --- Rome has actually had some quite catastrophic floods spread throughout it's history. Due to this the banks of the Tevere in the Navona and Campo dè Fiori area modern day Rome are a few meters higher than what they were during ancient Roman times. "Luckily" this is so because a lot of Rome has been "saved": instead of demolishing old buildings the Romans would rather build up and therefore away from dangerous flood levels.
