Today I installed Xubuntu 9.04 to a fellow neighbor's old Dell laptop dated way back to 2000. Xubuntu is optimised for older Intel and AMD PC's and it was a big success after I installed it for him.
With the bootable USB that I made, I did a 16 minute walk thru demonstration for any of you who are thinking about this distro. Hope you like this! No music or effects. Just me speaking to all of you and showing what this distro can do.

And the rat is Xfce's logo.
X is the windowing system that is used in most Linux distros, and lies underneath the desktop environment.

2 months ago 0 + -I'm going to need to learn more about XFCE desktops. It's very similar to Gnome and I like them both. Thanks for the info.

2 months ago 0 + -would it be safe to install ubuntu along side windows vista ultimate 64 bit?
i want to do it as a boot option so i can go into windows or ubuntu as a choice

2 months ago 0 + -Yes, and it's very easy to do also. If you don't want to burn the ISO to a CD, go to http://wubi-installer.org/ download the program, install it, run it, choose the flavor of Ubuntu (Kubuntu, Xubuntu), type your username and password and you're ready to go. It will download the system for you and install it as a program inside your Windows partition. Next time you boot, choose Ubuntu and it will complete the final steps of the process. If you want to get rid of it, just go to Programs and Features, look for Ubuntu and uninstall it.

2 months ago 0 + -The USB drive is so much faster and easier than burning and using a live CD/DVD. I think its better than a virtual machine since I don't need to follow any configuration and think about my host system resources.
