At 0000hrs on June 26th, 2009, Optus released the Apple iPhone 3GS in Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne. I attened the Sydney store launch and this is what occured. Lots of fun and entertainment. I only waited 2 hours in line. Rad.

Eddie Wakes in Santa Monica

Apple Store: Chatswood Chase

I just visited an Australian Apple Store (Chatswood Chase) for the first time. I did a speedtest on their connection and it's slower than the connection I have at home — unlike Apple Stores in the USA. See screenshot. I'm gonna get a new iPhone 3G S at the Optus launch tonight! The Homestead Dinner

Rachel and I went to The Homestead for dinner [in April]. It's a very nice restaurant made from three old cabins. There is a lovely aroma in the air as soon as you enter. The menu is small but very tasty! Desserts are a must! Indoor and outdoor seating.

Virgin America Flight

I took my first flight on Virgin America from New York (JFK) to Los Angeles (LAX) in June, 2009. Here's some of the technologies they had on board: - Touch screen (no where near as sensitive as an iPhone; horrible to browse) - Google Maps for the maps (finally!! Although no hybrid or satellite option) - In-flight chatroom or chat while watching a TV show - On-board Wi-Fi (can only be used with one device per payment; it stopped working because I tried switching back and forth between my MacBook Pro and iPhone) and power outlets. All around not as great as it's hyped up to be.

Espresso NOT Expresso

I saw this television commercial for Hungry Jacks (aka Burger King) while I was watching The Simpsons. At one point in the commercial it showed a range of products available for purchase at any Hungry Jacks. One such product was a coffee cup that said 'Expresso' on the side. I know it's meant to mean an 'express espresso', but come on. Get over yourselves and just spell it correctly.

No Taps at Gas Stations

After spending almost a year in the USA, I've only just noticed that gas/petrol stations don't seem to have any taps. Well, in Texas anyway. I'm going to keep you updated on this when I travel back to New York and Los Angeles in the next couple of weeks.

Question Re: AT&T and iPhone

1. a) Should I suspend my AT&T account (still costs $10/mo + tax) while I'm back in Australia? Or just get a new one when I'm back in the USA? b) Do other USA mobile carriers charge for voluntarily suspended accounts? 2. Will be 1st gen iPhone work in Australia? Do I need to "hack" unlock or will AT&T unlock it for me after 2 years? Hmm...
