No Forward Flexion in Pilates

A discussion about the results of not doing forward flexion in my matwork or my pilates and why would I choose to eliminate those. Osteoporosis is a silent disease until you have a vertebral fracture and then it hurts. And how much it hurts depends on other conditons of your spine. Forward flexion is eliminated in the case of osteoporosis. Is evidence based conclusions the answer if you do not take into account patient history and other factors. How did doctors manage all those years ago without all the gadgets? OKay, maybe not as well as we do but is it possible that we rely too much on technology and elimate the patient from the picture. Pain Control, Pilates Reformer and Recovery

Pain control following back surgery is very difficutl. Problems that are a big concern are constipation and adaptation to dosage. BUT if pain medication is the only way to get moving, then that's the way it is. Adapting the reformer to reduce the risk. I really like doing the short spine :( but it's gotta go. Introduction to The Spine Video Blog

My name is Darlene and I've had two back surgeries in the last 6 months. I have advanced arthriis and need a third surgery but don't want it. Guess I'm not in enough pain yet. I'm a certified pilates, yoga teacher and a personal trainer. Don't let my age fool you. I was a teacher of English as a Second language. I was very ill vor over 10 years and when I recovered in 2004, I thought I'd do what I loved. So that's when I got all the certifications. It wasn't until August of 2006 that periodic hip pain reared its ugly head. It took until March 2007 for things to get bad enough that I had to close down my studio and wait in line for surgery.
