Oh, I agree. I'm not one of the people claiming him to be a holy figure, and he is a head of state, which means he plays politics. That being said, I still don't think he's encouraging the violence. Which isn't what you're really saying either, but I couldn't help but butt my nose in. ;-)

I'm certainly not defending China, but I don't believe the Dali Lama to be as altruistic as his public persona would suggest.

Well, he flat out has encouraged non-violent protests, and continues to do so publicly. China's allegation is that he encouraged the violence, whether or not he's encouraging protests isn't an allegation, that's also a fact. When you said allegations I immediately assumed you were referring to violence in the protests.

Yes, but he has also been on the CIAs payroll for almost 20 years - that's not an allegation or an accusation, it's fact. I'm not saying he encouraged VIOLENCE, but I do think the timing and organization of the protests is very convenient.

I don't buy these allegations. The Dalai Lama has always been very explicit in calling for NON-VIOLENT protests. He was serious when he said he would step down as head of state if the last rash of violent protests persisted.
