About This Video
The push up is an extremely important closed - chain exercise for developing the pecs, shoulders, triceps, and often untrained serratus anterior. Regular bench press and all variations (incline, decline, flat, dumbbell, barbell, etc) don't train the serratus because the scapulae can't move since it's pressed between your body and the bench you're laying on.
The push up will help prevent shoulder problems by strengthening the stabilizing muscles of the shoulder, namely the serratus.
Here's a few exercises to make them more difficult, since they're usually do easy to illicit any kind of strength or hypertrophy gains.
