The new unibody doesn't SEEM like a big deal, but they are certainly making a big deal about it. Thoughts?

I think it is a pretty big deal. Over the life of several of our laptops the seams and various parts have started to go out of alignment. A single unibody would be all the things they say in the video and once again, Apple is the first to figure it out.

I haven't touched one yet, but I think it will look really nice with out the plastic edge (like on the old models). Although I think it will be pretty sharp against one's wrists. :\

Is this a process that can be easily duplicated by other manufaturers?

Theoretically. But building a decent MP3 player is also something that could be duplicated by others and yet no one has yet come close to the iPod. I think because people keep wanting $500 crappy laptops that the Dells and IBMs can't/won't spend the time and money to figure out how to follow Apple in this direction.

Not to mention the Dells and IBMs don't control the manufacturing of all the other components that go into their machines. So they're stuck creating cases for the lowest common denominator part specs.

Same with my MB Air. The difference between an LED and a regular display is amazing.

A big con for everyone that works with design or photography..

But if you're a Designer, Photographer, or Video Editor then you'll be using a MacBook Pro and/or a Mac Pro.

the new mbps also got the glossy screens i wouldnt buy the 17 inch since its vastly overpriced if u compare it to the new 15,4 inches

Yeah, I've heard from several designers that the glossy screens are just not an option if you work in print. They literally can not use them.

Again, same with the Air. When I hand people my Air, after they freak that it doesn't weigh anything, they open it and emit an audible "Whoaaaaaa" when that LED pops on.

5-times faster! I'm mostly looking forward to iPhoto / iMovie performance.

I've heard mixed reviews. But I think I'll love the new touchpad.

OK the integrated GPU is cool. That has me more interested.

I think Viddler should give one of these away as a contest prize...

Oh yeah? I'd rig it so that I'd be the automatic winner though. ;)

ummm no... Is he referring to an early version? This is really strange. it would be cool to have a display go to the edges but this definitely has a border... strange...

I wonder if the unibody give the notebook more rigidity. In my experience it is the connections to the motherboard that fail. Though all macbooks I know of do have the same broken body peice on the front right corner.

From what I've seen on Engadget, this Macbook is incredibly solid.

Absolutely. If you've ever taken a laptop apart, any laptop not just the Apples, then you know how flimsy they are. Even the Mac Titanium cases were thin and had a tremendous amount of flex.

A solid block of milled Aluminum? Can't be much flex at all.

Multiple contact tracking is cool too. That will be very nice.

lol - what did he say about the mac book being made of one peice?

This is nice too. It's great when conservation and capitalism go hand in hand.

I'm not convinced that I won't miss my two buttons and allowing my left, right and middle (both) click. though jestures will help.

This video comment isn't loading for me on a Windows Vista laptop in IE. :(

It'll definately take some time for me to get used to.

I think I agree with Brian on that one. I will most likely get used to it, but I will most likely miss it too.

The old macbook? anyone no it went up $19 for?

This is simply the best new designed product by Apple I have ever seen. It's really new, and I love that the track pad is now also the button!

Its so great that it still comes with imovie oh wait no firewire nevermind

It has 800 series IEEE (FireWire) - the best on the market. Blows my mind it's so fast.

did he just say that this is the best they can do? in 6 months they'll make something new and say the same thing - lol
