1 year ago 0 + -Does Viddler have rights clearance to include the music and video segments from Napolean Dynamite?
cdevroe (1:17)
1 year ago 0 + -thrak: We actually got the video from one of the production team. :) Thanks Harry!

1 year ago 0 + -Unfortunately that does not exactly mean the Napoleon Dynamite clip and Jamiroquai song are legal to use in your promo video. Copyright law and licensing details are a lot more complicated than "someone on the production team said we could use it." Rarely do people get in trouble for this kind of unlicensed usage, but I would think a company starting a video sharing site would be a lot more sensitive to and aware of intellectual property laws given the today's litigious context, especially since the YouTube/Viacom lawsuit. And no, this doesn't count as artistic license either. It's a promotional clip for your for-profit organization. I'm not saying I know everything about this, (despite how it sounds!), and I'd be very interested in hearing how your legal people view it.

1 year ago 0 + -I really dig the 2.0 features, and everything works really smoothly. Well done. The navigation and layout and overall feel is very much like being on Flickr, and that's a good thing. I won't go anywhere near YouTube because it is so wretched in all the ways this site isn't.
Not to sound like a broken record, but isn't there any worry about claims of copying Flickr's work? Without doing a real side-by-side comparison, Viddler is just so reminiscent of the overall UI.
Anyway, that's for the lawyers to worry about. Keep up the good work!

1 year ago 0 + -luckylou: We're DEFINITELY inspired by Flickr's overall feel. I do not believe we've copied them in any manner but we are actually working on some things to actually mirror some Flickr functionality to make it easier for developers and users to use both Flickr and Viddler respectively. We respect Flickr and their entire team, so you saying that you have the same feeling here as on Flickr is a real compliment...
