Carpal motion in extension, flexion, radial and ulnar deviation is viewed relative to the scaphoid, which is fixed. Bones shown are the scaphoid (blue), os centrale (pale green), lunate (light yellow), capitate (darker yellow), hamate (magenta), radius (red), ulna (bright green), metacarpal 3 (blue) and metacarpals 4 and 5 (both gray). Hand position (MC 3 angle relative to the radius) of maximum os centrale motion in the four anatomical planes is indicated. The plotted arrows represent the helical axes of motion and their colors correspond to their respective bones.
