On Friday, the Employment Development Department announced that Silicon Valleys unemployment rate for July was 6.4 percent. It was also reported that over one year the Sane Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara metropolitan area lost 1,400 jobs. In San Banito County alone the unemployment rate was 8.6 percent and in Santa Clara County it was 6.4 percent. A major contribution to Silicon Valleys unemployment rate was the elimination of 3,000 construction jobs and 1,300 financial jobs.
