Yeah, animations like these must be done using time line, they are too customized to be done with AS ^^. I prefere using AS to create random animations or interactive aimation, and you can also combine the two...

Yeah, smells AS. Messing with timeline animations is something I don't like, but pieces like this one would be a real drag to code in pure AS. It's the wisdom - use proper tool for proper task :)
