About This Video
This video is
In which I have a lot to say about the future of online video, what will make a company really stand out among the myriad of online video hosting sites, and I give examples of how I feel the user/consumer is often the last thing considered when making a company's priorities.

1 year ago 0 + -Like, instead of redoing the embedded player several times this year? (Another example.)

From what I've heard, it's part of what makes Indy Hall sound like an amazing project/situation/place, and I wish EVERYONE handled things with such consideration for the user. Strange that when working hard to make a product successful, a company (and I'm not specifically addressing on this) can lose sight of their consumer/user.

1 year ago 0 + -That is actually a REALLY good point, the need to start making money (in Viddler's situation), and one that I neglected to consider. Although, with that ad stuff out of the way, I think the next step (especially since blip and other services are already underway with it) should be the iTunes feed, etc. Great comments!

1 year ago 0 + -Holy crap, that's a REALLY good idea. I would pay more for a program just to have that kind of ability to direct where improvements were made in subsequent patches/fixes, etc.

1 year ago +1 + -One theory is Apple dumbed down iMovie08 to prevent it from stealing market share from Final Cut Express.
brandice (13:51)
1 year ago 0 + -Awww, that would be super lame. :(

1 year ago +1 + -Did you see the video I made about how to do a similar effect with QuickTime Pro?
brandice (13:33)
1 year ago 0 + -No, I would like to... I'll do a peek for it laterz. :)
masto (13:55)
1 year ago +1 + -I bet Apple did all kinds of market research, surveys, focus groups, etc. to find out what people want. I also suspect that your favorite feature, while it may be in your top 5, probably isn't even on the list if you ask 100 random people off the street what they want in a video editing program.
brandice (13:55)
1 year ago 0 + -I bet they didn't. (I really do bet bet they didn't, or at least didn't do a sufficient job b/c the general consensus about iMovie 08 is "wtf.")
masto (14:59)
1 year ago +1 + -It's not that I don't agree with you that it's important to make stuff that has what people want in it, I just think you may be underestimating how difficult it is to please all of the people all of the time. Viddler should hire you to help out with that stuff. I guess that's what Colin does, somewhat, but he's probably busy with lots of other responsibilities. Mostly, I want to see how jaded and calloused you get when you're on the other end of the feedback line for a few months. :-)
brandice (14:59)
1 year ago 0 + -LOL... but that's the point... I don't know how difficult it is because I'm a consumer/user, not a pro. I'm somewhere else in the world doing things that are hard in my own profession, so I don't have any desire to come home and use my last ounce of compassion to feel sympathetic to the people who made iMovie. This gal just wants it to work and to do what it used to, and so do a lot of others... the consumer doesn't (and shouldn't have to) care. *shrug* :)

I don't really care that I don't have an invite.
