Manfrotto Snowboarding Fig Rig

Expert snowboarder Euan Southcott used the Manfrotto Fig Rig to help film footage for a project called Freezing Level about global warming told through the eyes of winter sports enthusiasts. Euan filmed in four different countries in some pretty difficult to reach locations which meant quite often his team was restricted to small cameras. We were looking at ways of keeping things stable but also the ability to get in close and still have fluidity, says Euan. I was lucky enough to find the Manfrotto Fig Rig which enables us to get stability and a wider grip on a smaller camera. The other thing that was fantastic about the Fig Rig was that were filmed on anything from chairlifts, boats and cars and the ability to just grab shots from strange view points and to pick up vox pop style interviews in conditions and locations where normally it would be difficult was invaluable. Furthermore we used it with the LAN attachment (that comes with the Fig Rig) enabling us to snowboard with our gloves on and still control the zoom, focuses of the small camera when you are moving. This allowed us to get right in amongst the action of the snowboarders and really feel were part of the action we are watching! After years of using the Fig Rig on his award-winning films, Mike Figgis brought his idea to Manfrotto. An idea that is non-traditional in design, but purely simple and effective. The only modular system in the world to smoothly support the DV camera and act as a frame to mount all the accessories including zoom controllers, mics, mixers, lights, monitors, arms. A circular frame with a crossbar to mount most mini DV cameras, the Fig Rig becomes part of the body to produce smooth, steady travelling shots. KATAs HB-207 Hiker Backpack [review]

Presenter is Phil Coates who runs a company called Images of Adventure. The bag featured in the footage is the Kata Camera Backpack GDC HB-207 http://www.images-of-adventure.com KATAs HB-207 Hiker Backpack features a level of protection you havent seen before; KATAs TST protection safeguards the camera compartment and the bottom of the case while keeping it light. The extensive main compartment easily accommodates 2-3 Digital / SLR bodies with up to 8 lenses (up to 400 mm f 2.8), while a rear compartment will hold up to a 17 laptop. The case is set up with modular dividers, and if additional division is necessary, KATAs Modi-Vers Kits can be purchased. A separately accessed top compartment will hold accessories, a small SLR or it can be used for quick access to an SLR + lens set up by simply removing the horizontal divider. 2 soft TST open pockets for water bottles, small tripod etc., and an assortment of pockets all work together to provide the ultimate carrying and protecting solution for outdoor production. A tripod can be carried while attached to the backpack by using KATAs included tripod holder. The HB-207 advanced harness system is designed to allow for ultimate adjustment of all features; shoulder straps, 6 point adjustable waist belt, and lumbar pad, ensure the perfect ergonomic fit for each individual carrier.
