About This Video
The Southern Hills are laced with specially-engineered super-scenic highways, and the Peter Norbeck Scenic Byway has been named one of the 10 Most Outstanding Byways in America. Its roads wind through some of the most spectacular scenery in the Black Hills. Besides well- known Mount Rushmore and Custer State Park, the Byway includes picturesque lakes, towering granite needle rocks and six picture perfect tunnels. Plus there are tight hairpin curves, spiral "pigtail" bridges, mile-high overlooks and the wildlife ranges of the Norbeck Wildlife Preserve, Black Elk National Wilderness Area and Custer State Park. You are likely to encounter deer, bison, or mountain goats. There are many photo stops, picnic areas, climbing rocks and alpine brooks that add to the fun.
