Beach Walk 714 - Life is Not So Linear

It seems we are taking on more and more complexity and using tools like mind-mapping that allow us to show relationships that are nuanced than a straight line. It's true even with business models, where there are ways to "get paid" by "paying it forward" or helping someone who then helps someone else who then buys from you. Not so easy to be sure, but our brains appear able to handle it!
By beachwalks

Are you like me? Staying up late working tends to make me hungry. It seems like I am burning calories, and that warrants having a snack. Well, apparently the brain is tricking us a bit by creating a hunger connection without the usual caloric expenditure. So over time, the less you sleep and the more you are thinking the more likely you are to gaining weight! Guess it is time to use my brain to ignore what my brain is telling my tummy. This research was done at Laval University in Quebec.
By beachwalks

Here's a great story. A Harvard researcher, Jill Bolte Taylor, had a stroke. It de-commissioned her left brain. As part of her recovery she stayed present in her process and observed life without an active left brain - the home to the logical and the inner critic in many ways. She found her bliss deep inside the exploration of her right brain.

I read a review of a new book, Kluge - The Haphazard Construction of the Human Mind that describes a lot of our brain function and memory processes as actually quite improvised, and contextual, not particularly logical or repeatable. That is a contrast to the methodical approach of computers, yet one that suits us being able to take action on the fly. As life becomes less and less predictable, being able to improvise is a more appealing skill IMO. FYI, kluge is a computer term for banding things together in unpredictable ways.
