It?s a funky beast that although sweet as sugar in parts, has a message that is quite biting and confronting. I love the sound Herrin has on his guitar parts and the ?Funky Love Horns? do their thing again. The end of the song has a message that sums it all up rather nicely. We Were Friends was one of those songs that just flowed out of my pen onto paper (they?re the really good ones). It is the only jazz sounding song on the album. It is semi biographical about some experiences in my life and is also about being in love with someone through thick and thin, a union that goes beyond this life and into the next. Someone that you know you can trust will stand by you no matter what life may send your way and who you love with every fiber of your being. At the time I wrote the song I had no children but since then I have had the good fortune of helping to bring two wonderful kids into this crazy world and I can really see how they will carry on the seeds of Love that their mum and I plant in them by the things they learn from us. Astronomy Records 2008 http://astronomyrecords.com About the song - Petal was a song written late one beautiful summers night when a warm, gentle breeze blew through my window. This song is about the flower of life and we are all the petals that make it. The Love for being alive is reflected in the soul of my day and the soul of my night and I try to live my life with an awareness of gratitude. We all have tiny demons that do the dance of duality with the tiny angels inside our minds. Petal was recorded one afternoon on a DAT recording tape that was eventually lost leaving us unable to add or take away anything from the song if we needed to. Fortunately for us we didn?t, we did most of it in first takes.

"Over the past few years I've had to face more than most people probably face in their lifetime, from two major operations, cancer and the ravages of chemotherapy to very deep personal issues surrounding life, death and relationships and yet I still feel as though I am the luckiest man alive. There are not many people who get a second chance at being alive and the chance to face their death again. The first time I wasn't ready but the next I think I will be able to leave peacefully. So I guess you could say I'm a survivor who has been given a second chance to complete the things I have come here to do. One of those things is the making of this album. It has taken Seven years to complete and I think the wait has been worth while, I hope you do to. Dream Beautiful has a life of its own and I believe it will give joy to people and I could ask for no more."
