Introduction to using LPub 4

This is an introduction to using LPub 4 to create instructions for a simple model. When you first run LPub, you need to locate your LDraw directory and a renderer such as LDView (version 3.2 or higher recommended); these steps are shown in the video. You can download the files featured in the video: - car-initial.mpd is the unmodified model. - car-final.mpd contains all the LPub statements. - gradient.png is the background image. - car.pdf is the output. Each page of the instructions, as well as a decorative cover page, are available as images on Flickr. To rotate step images, see my article about ROTSTEP statements. I apologize for the poor clarity of the video.

Yojimbo Export with Comment Tags

Export with Comment Tags is an AppleScript for Yojimbo which permits items to be exported with their tags preserved as Spotlight comments.

Bricksmith Minifig Editing

Bricksmith's Minifigure Generator is great, but it doesn't edit existing minifigs. You can manipulate minifig elements individually, but it can be difficult to preserve their alignment. Bricksmith's Rotate panel allows you to rotate a group of pieces around an arbitrary point (among other references). Once you locate the joint axes, you can use this option to pose minifigs in a way that is fairly reversible. View full screen for greater clarity.

Building with Bricksmith

Demonstrating the creation of a 228-piece LDraw model from start to finish with Bricksmith. I use a development version of Bricksmith featuring improved Part Browser searching, along with a few unofficial interface tweaks. This is an alternate model I created with pieces from a single B-Wing Fighter set. Two of the little turrets can be built at the same time as the ship. Even if you're interested in this stuff, this video gets pretty monotonous. I recommend downloading it and playing it on fast forward!
