Where is SaaS going? Panelists Russ Daniels of HP and Vance Checketts of Mozy discuss what they think they future holds for this enterprise software that has become a driving force in business.
Tried and true SaaS has been a successful and useful business model, revolutionizing the way we think of the utility of enterprise software. Since businesses need only pay for what they use, more are being won over by SaaS' effectiveness and efficiency.
As Vance Checketts of Mozy stated, "we are beyond the initial fear of SaaS."
Although there is a concern of security, Vance explains that it is not the information itself but the key to the information that should cause concern. However, if Salesforce.com is any indication of the general consensus concerning security, business are relatively content with the system.
Russ Daniels of HP believes Salesforce.com has a platform trained by experience and hardened through use. Salesforce has gone through an evolution, from automation, to business solutions, to support partnerships and now a platform.
Change is inevitable, and businesses attempting to leverage cloud computing to their benefit should now look to opportunities in the un-served or under-served markets.
SaaS will not disappear; it will evolve.
