2 weeks ago 0 + -ive down loaded and made a bootable cd of ubuntu. is it safe to install along side
windows vista ultimate 64 bit version? so i can have a choice of which os i boot? ,

2 weeks ago 0 + -For an AMD/Intel 64-bit, you will need to choose the x64 (or amd64) cd image.
First, you'll need to download, install and run the EasyBCD (Easy Boot CD), it will create a custom boot loader using the vista 64bit files and enable you to reinstate the vista boot loader with ubuntu listed as part of the OS selection screen.
Without it, only ubuntu will boot, choosing Vista from the grub menu will halt it or give you "missing operating system" as the error. Keep that easyBCD in a safe place for when it's needed again due to a rogue "boot loader modification" as I call it, windows update.

2 weeks ago 0 + -Disappointingly, it is only an x86 cpu. Simple to say, two packages in one, on the same chip.

1 week ago 0 + -um no i think thats wrong, or i dont undersand what you mean.
heres what the cpu set reads as intel core 2 cpu T5500 @1.66 Ghz 1.67 ghz
machine is an acer 9420wmsi
running 4 gig ram. and a 300 gig hard drive :O),
its definetly 2 processors. or seems to behave this way. i solved running a vey old game which wont run on dual processors and was able to turn one processor of for that game. and a few other settings to get it going,
a game from 1993 . works perfect on vista once sorted

Windows doesn't license anybody with 32-bit hardware to use all 4GB (or more) of RAM. They force you to buy new 64-bit hardware in order to utilize all of the installed memory.
Now with Linux, you don't have to worry about any "license" as you can use all 4GB (or more) of RAM regardless of 32 or 64-bit (x86 or x64) hardware.

1 week ago 0 + -ah well this is why i have windows vista 64, i had the 32 bit version and it was only giving me 3070 mb instead of the full 4 gigs which is 4096 mb. and it is now giving me the full load. so maybe they changed the licence.
never really know what the hells going on with microsoft lol
anyway thank you for replys i will see how i get along with trying linux, and maybe post a video on it if i get it going
peace out ;o)

1 week ago 0 + -Apple does this to most large companies, and in this case manufactures of Netbooks. While they acknowlege that Dell or HP (for example) never advocated "hackintosh", Apple found the right patch to keep people from buying cheap portable computer at a 3rd of the cheapest Apple Macbook cost.
