* Some of these people want to be representatives in the parliament!
* The biggest challenge is to have Moroccan Communities active in Morocco and fully integrated in their host countries.

Hoping for a low profile for the RFK HR Award for Aminatou Hiadar does not necessarily make make it so.

Kerry Kennedy, the daughter of the late Robert Kennedy and the founder of the RFK center for Justice & Human Rights introduced Aminatou Haidar and presented her with the Award. Ms Kerry Kennedy was very biased in her description of the situation in Morocco's Southern provinces and presented an Anti-morocco narrative to the audience. She described morocco as if it was the apartheid regime in South Africa or the Pol Pot Regime in Cambodia. Her introduction was very biased against Morocco and she promised to help Aminatou Haidar in the future to reach her objective.
This was followed by Senator Patrick Leah, Democrat of Vermont who declared "It is important to recognize and commend the Government of Morocco for its recent efforts to protect human rights. Morocco has become a party to

most of the major human rights treaties. It is also a valued friend and ally of the United States. It is now time for Morocco to fulfill its treaty obligations to uphold the civil and political rights of the Sahrawi people"

In her speech, Aminatou Haidar used her unfortunate experience as a selling point to advance Polisario's political aim of full independence and she thanked Algerian President Boutefliqa "for all the help to the Sahrawi People" in a declaration to the large contingent of Algerian Media following her award. Morocco's official media, beside a lone MAP reporter, was not present.

There were very few independent Moroccan Activists in the premises who distributed literature to explain the Moroccan position and try to contact some key people. But Mouloud Said, the Polisario representative in Washington, D.C. was acting as a head of ceremonies and also as a gate keeper, he was stopping the Moroccan activists from approaching the RFK widow, Ethel Kennedy. MoroccoBoard TV 's Town Hall Meeting between community members and the Moroccan American Coalition (MAC). The Town Hall meeting introduced the coalition to a larger audience, opened dialogue and doors of communication between MAC and the community. This was accomplished by providing MAC with a platform where it introduced and presented itself and its programs, and gave community members direct access to MAC for a direct conversation.
The panel was comprised of two MAC representatives; Boubker Abisorour, MAC V.P. and Hassan Samrhouni, MAC Exec Board Member and two experienced community activists Latifa ElHadri and Hamid Mernissi.
The questions received by email from the community were asked by the moderator, while the attendees had the floor open to ask their own.
Topics discussed varied from discussing MAC?s vision, to ways to entice community members to join, to acquiring about clauses in the bylaws, among others.
Discussions and debates were at times heated and intense and other times light and cordial. There was also an atmosphere of openness, sincerity, and honesty in fielding questions or expressing opinions through commentaries.

The Moroccan American Coalition (MAC) held its Third Annual Convention in Denver, Colorado. The event brought together 18 Moroccan Associations and over 100 active community individuals in addition to the local Moroccan community members of Denver, CO. The Moroccan American Coalition event coincided with the Democrat Convention and attracted several Moroccan and American influential speakers:

Ambassador Aziz Mekouar of Morocco to the US - Congressman Jim McDermott (D-WA) - Mr. Mohamed Ameur The Minister of Moroccans Living Abroad - Mr. Mohamed Laenser The General Secretary of Popular Movement in Morocco - Mr. Ahmed Herzenni President of Advisory Council on Human Rights in Morocco - Mr. Abdelaziz Omari Member of the Parliament of Morocco - Mr. Richard Cizik Vice President for Governmental Affairs (NAE).

The Third Moroccan American Coalition event gave conventioneers the opportunity to learn new development on Moroccan policies and how the Moroccan community can play a large role in the USA.

CREATION OF THE MOROCCAN AMERICAN COALITION

DENVER, COLORADO, AUGUST 22nd, 2008 - The Moroccan American Coalition (MAC), was created by the members of the provisional board, represented by several Moroccan Association and active community individuals in the USA who voted by ballot and elected the Executive Officers and Board of Directors. The Moroccan American Coalition's mission is to empower Moroccan Americans to achieve their full potential by unifying over 200,000 growing community members through a platform in which they can leverage their collective assets.
