The process of painting is as important as the final result; abstract paintings could be seen as snapshots of the unconscious mind, documents of an inner state. In this short film what happens was expected but at the same time a surprise. The only discernable difference to the situation at that moment was that I had literally just sung to myself the Pink Floyd line; "You've got to strike when the moment is right without thinking" - this is the moment where internal logic is confronted and eventually annihilated, what is left is process and the contingency. Breaking through the illusion of the divided self to make art can be dramatic and painful for me, like life, and this is reflected in this painting.

11.10.08. The sensation of these tiny polystyrene balls on the face is pleasing, but I could drown in them, like cocaine... Partially inspired by Chris Burden's drowning piece.

"View". A 4ft painting in 10 minutes...

Painting and 12 string guitar recorded afterwards (I love these single takes!). I meant to paint something entirely different (an image of some red houses actually!) and this was to be the background but I got carried away and love the oil paint so made it thick and fruity! Not really ten mins but about 4 hours. The 'view' is earth, trees and sky, as you can see, of course..! Moon Jams III - Stanage Edge

Third and final Moon Jam. Stanage Edge. 30.8.08. John, Herve, Walt, Gill, Geoff, Dan, Self. Trisha filmed. The triple event was about contraction & expansion, privacy and groups, improvised music, many things really and we used the three main stages of the moon (new.full.ended) as calender.

Second part of 'moon jams' project. Full Moon 16th Aug 08. John Jasnoch - 12 string guitar / Walt - percussion / Steve / percussion / Gill - accordian / self - whistles / objects. Filmed by remote and Trisha. Edit: self. (abridged footage). Two pairs entering from two tree tunnels to meet me in the middle (Walt's idea) - I think like ovaries / womb. Calling and responding musically, instant composing on the edges of audibility and visibility. Then together down the third tunnel like birth to the allotment where things grow, into the shed to keep dry and play more questions.

Moon Walk - (Intro to Moon Jams)

Intro to first part of 'moon jams' project. New Moon 1st Aug 08. John Jasnoch on 12 string guitar. Filmed by remote and Trisha. Edit: self. Inspired from Min Tanaka and Derek Bailey as well as a strong intuitive urge. Improvised music and sounds compelling the body to move before the mind. Dancing unconsciously? Responding to the instantly composed sounds to approach new movements and states of being. Underground on the new moon, in the semi-dark, in white. Pre-introduction to the three stage event with people but in private before the beginning which took place upstairs immediately afterwards.
