Annually, Edinburgh Castle offers itself as a venue for the British Legion's Beating Retreats paying respect to the many servicemen around the United Kingdom. 2007 saw two events; a beating retreat featuring the pipes and drums of the RBL Scotland and the second event being a parade on the Royal Mile by the Royal Navy and the Royal Marines Scotland.
