More than 40,000 people of all shapes and sizes participated in this year's New York York City Marathon. While the field featured several elite athletes, the vast majority of entrants are average and participate for the love of the race, to raise money for various charities and maybe to drop a few pounds, too. Here's a snippet from the 2009 ING NYC Marathon.
