3 months ago +1 + -I had never heard of the term "crowdsourcing", but after coming up to speed with the definition, I realized that my company just successfully used this method to obtain a new logo for the company (where we had a relatively small budget and no in-house marketing staff) -- it worked out very well. Looking forward to the class... Miranda seems like a tough cookie... here's hoping that her sister goes a little easier on us.
joshmoritz
3 months ago Show -1 + -she just needs to chill. Very Brooklyn. It will never take the place of the company meeting where you can eat, drink and be merry.

2 months ago +1 + -When I clicked on this I was really hoping for another video... very disappointed customer...
larsonjef...
2 months ago 0 + -I too was thinking a new video was going to be posted.
joshmoritz (1:43)
3 months ago 0 + -Forget brand management. Need to think intereactive!!!!
joshmoritz (2:34)
3 months ago 0 + -Chill
djsteen (2:34)
2 months ago 0 + -I agree!
joshmoritz (3:07)
3 months ago 0 + -Whatever happend to CRM?
preed2_ba... (3:07)
2 months ago 0 + -It was replaced by KYC
joshmoritz (3:07)
2 months ago 0 + -KYC is just know your customers, CRM is how you manage the customer through all points of contact. All this stuff is just tools and tactics to get to a bigger picture.
joshmoritz (3:49)
3 months ago 0 + -is this a fad, or will this have legs?
HHWilson (3:49)
2 months ago 0 + -Hmmm, Josh, is this a fad? No! Do people use public telephones anymore at the airports or on the streets? This stuff is sticking.
foti (3:49)
2 months ago 0 + -I wonder if, eventually, we go into information overload. If there is so much information being thrown at us - Tweets, videos, emails, Facebook updates, LinkedIn messages - when does one stop reading them all and says - give me that phonebooth back!? Being facecious of course, but...
preed2_ba... (3:49)
2 months ago 0 + -@foti: I don't think it's a facetious comment at all. We're living in a "push culture" right now, where everyone is pushing out more information than they are consuming in the naive belief that they are getting their voice heard. Your point is critical I think. Finding ways to consume information is the next big area of innovation, not finding new means to publish it.
joshmoritz (3:49)
2 months ago 0 + -I was wrong about the economy too.
fsuliman (3:49)
2 months ago 0 + -This cannot be a fad. I think it would be akin to calling the Internet a fad. The example of the Johnson and Johnson screwup with Motrin is a good example. As a "listening platform" a company is almost forced to sense what might be brewing (+ve or -ve) in the customer base and failing to do so has a real heavy cost now. And remember - everyone is an author now - one that can be searched for, linked to, tagged and archived...I agree that platforms will come and go and their frequency is perhaps what overwhelms us but the mindset around what these things represent is what has to stay foremost in our minds. One thing is for sure - it can be a double edged sword so you better have a plan and be prepared.
joshmoritz (4:44)
3 months ago 0 + -You need a strategy and a plan. Don't forget to press the flesh.
kdesmarais (2:52)
3 months ago 0 + -How do companies handle the legal aspect of crowdsourcing, i.e. consumer suggests product, company makes similar product, consumer sues company for its piece of the profits on their idea...
mbeasley (2:52)
2 months ago 0 + -I think once you post an idea in a public forum, you've pretty much given up any right to patent the idea or call it a trade secret. I think a bigger danger is someone posting information that is covered under an NDA or supposed to be kept secret. It may not be caught and removed before search engine spiders make it a permanent part of web history.
preed2_ba... (0:16)
2 months ago +1 + -Logo to the front ... nice product placement for Starbucks!
ect9
2 months ago 0 + -Perhaps there is opportunity recognition aroung the use of iPhons with this technology, and buyer-centric targets that on the one hand add value to customer and marketer alike as well don't cross the line to become obtrucive or annoying. We all rememer the advent of pop ups (and the months prior to pop up blocker)
joshmoritz
2 months ago 0 + -Gater was essetially sued out of business. And we have pop-up blockers on nearly all the time
ect9
2 months ago 0 + -So perhaps viddler and tweet blocks are to come
HHWilson
2 months ago 0 + -Love the Devil Wears Prada analogy!
giljo21 (3:51)
2 months ago 0 + -cutting through the irrelevant information must be tough
joshmoritz (3:51)
2 months ago 0 + -No it is a form of segmented marketing. Different people respond to different media. The great thing about social media is that as a marketer you can target to the exact person online as soon as they sign into their Facebook, Myface, Linked in accounts based on Email addresses. Some people like TV, others on the web, others still cut coupons from the Sunday supps and now from Apple phone bar codes. SMS text to tell car sales people that their customer loans are approved, etc.
foti (5:49)
2 months ago 0 + -She doesn't seem to have a high opinion of Babson professors... ouch!
foti
2 months ago 0 + -Preed2 - I agree on consuming information, I was just thinking last night how it could make for an interesting business project.
I smell Capstone... :) Anyone want to join?
fsuliman
2 months ago 0 + -@foti Watch out for the competition. The big CRM suppliers are integrating social platforms and they have got to be doing intelligent mining applications for it. It is as the Dell Social Media manager said in his interview - once all the contributions start flowing in from IdeaStorm.dell.com and their blog comments etc. someone has to do the hard work of screening, selecting, followup, and matching to strategic or tactial change. I really wonder how much this can be automated though....hmmm...perhaps you are right - Capstone.
mgilly13 (4:28)

2 months ago 0 + -you forgot globalization, and homogenization

2 months ago 0 + -This whole notion of Social networking seems so highly fragmented right now; add in technology like UC (unified communication), that is, voice, fax, email, video teleconferencing, instant messaging, and other web 2.0 "stuff" into the social networking equation and you have a formula for utter and complete information overload. I find myself unsubscribing more than subscribing these days because of the sheer volume of information.
Shep1530 (5:24)
2 months ago 0 + -I don't disagree Jay, I find myself searching for the more reputable sources and avoiding the rest. Problem winds up being to balance trendy with sources that add value....
jandrewes1
2 months ago 0 + -I agree Jay. What annoys me is when your trying to get a simple review, on a car for example, and quickly they are having you fill out a survey so a salesperson can contact you. I am using the internet to facilitate avoiding contact with a pushy salesperson!
joshmoritz

2 months ago 0 + -Finally some leadership! That's what we've been looking all along this Fast Track.....for a Miranda to get us on track and online! Its about time.

2 months ago 0 + -I like these comments. What if you or I want to delete a comment? Is it possible? Who has permissions to delete?
joshmoritz (0:32)

I know in my blog that I can decide to publish, delete comments, but i think here it is who-ever has administrtive authorization.
Josh
Shep1530 (0:32)
2 months ago 0 + -you might be getting this confused with wiki ;-)
leisures78 (0:32)
2 months ago 0 + -Actually, you can do this with both a blog and wiki.
mbeasley (1:04)
2 months ago 0 + -What are those strange green shrubs on the left? Can't they afford proper interior greenscaping?
ngvenkat1... (1:04)
2 months ago 0 + -I think those are bambo stems ---- (Good Luck, Growth and Prosperity) ... That's another kind of greenscaping :)
leisures78 (2:59)
2 months ago 0 + -I wonder how many people think blogs are silly? If you ask me, soem of the best news coverage today is provided by blogs.

2 months ago 0 + -Hi Folks-
Miranda here! Thank you so much for commenting on the video. It was a blast to make. CITG did a great job but I don't think Meryl Streep has anything to worry about.
I can't wait to meet all of you this evening on our Elluminate session. Please continue to comment on the video. "Miranda" wants to hear from all of you........pj

2 months ago 0 + -I knew Laurel was a movie star - wasted in Fast Track management
djsteen
2 months ago 0 + -I'm not sure whether to take this seriously or laugh at it as a joke.
I think Miranda needs to take the 6 week course and make this video again; too many buzz words and not enough knowledge.
Lose the blue screen, sunglasses, and say it from the heart. No one likes pressure/stress.

1 month ago 0 + -This is for a Babson College Graduate course on Social Media. You should see the final wrap up - it will explain it all. Here is the link: http://www.viddler.com/explore/BabsonFT/videos/12/
(And no blue/green screen used - they were in that office - :)).
PJGuinan
2 months ago 0 + -I hope I'll hear from the rest of you very soon! You don't want to keep Miranda waiting......
The next installment from Miranda will be out next week. I know I'm anxious to hear what she has to say next.......

2 months ago 0 + -How do we turn off the comment pop-up while going through this video... Is there way?
foti (5:32)
2 months ago 0 + -You can only jump though it in a Matrix kind of way. I don't think the window's existence matches our perception of reality.

2 months ago 0 + -How much of the "voice of the customer" actually makes it into new product beyond the reactionary?
cheehowlim
2 months ago 0 + -It'd be interesting to understand the benefit/impact of using crowdsourcing and social network in general for customers to feedback ideas/trends for product or service development that spans from 1 year to 5 years/etc. For example, 4WD SUV (5+ year development cycle) was hot early this decade, and customers may have buzzed favorably around that, while shortly thereafter, with higher fuel costs, the trend moved relatively quickly to hybrids, etc. Would the customer voice be too late, and the car manufacturer missed the mark? However, for companies like Zara, the real-time customer voice/feedback is perhaps exactly what they need to excel.
jchehab1
2 months ago 0 + -The expectations are high, but again the idea is social media integration in the marketing campaign. My question to this presentation is: is it really integrating the social media with the traditional marketing tools in the marketing campaign or it is the integration of marketing campaigns into the social media phenomenon and campaign. To me, I see the social media is way more than just marketing campaign, it is a global culture change and still evolving at a very high rate tha marketing campaings can be an integarl part of social media evolution.

2 months ago 0 + -As the parent of a 14 yr old I feel a bit wary of how companies may try to use SM to market to kids - they are a powerful demographic are some of the most extreme users of SM. When I told my daughter that she needed to erase some of the 539 and counting "friends" from her FB account that she doesn't really know, she informed me that many of her peers have 800-1000 FB "friends." I can only imagine that with these numbers marketers are just dying to figure out how to sell to tweens and teens (or how to get them to acquire the money from their parents to buy). I think there needs to be some ethical guidelines when marketing using SM, especially because many young people are using this technology without the guidance of their parents and there seems to be a "wild west" mentality about how to tap into new markets using this form of media.

7 days ago 0 + -In order for the marketing process to be successful, a business has to identify the wants/ needs to consumers. Then they have to be able to identify their target audiences. For some successful businesses, they may even be able to convince initial uninterested customers into buyers of a certain product/service. To be able to sell a product/service, they must first be able to gain the attention of the audience. Some businesses that perform live presentations of a product may use a roll up stand to gain their interest.
